Jane with Blaze and Dutch

The first dog I ever had was a greyhound. It was the fall of 1998 and after a few calls, my boyfriend, Jim, and I arrived at a Pet Smart to sign some papers and take him home. At 4 1/2, he came with some broken ribs, a couple of scars and a weathered grace that caught my breath. Little did I know then that he, and the five others who would join our family over the next 22 years, would become such a central part of our lives.

Milo, Fara, Scout, Rosie, Blaze and Dutch. Each dog has arrived cautious and scared, damaged, but not broken. One of my greatest joys in life has been to watch their personalities emerge as they relax under our care and realize they’ll no longer spend their days in confinement. Each dog has had his or her own quirks, expressions, joys and ways of showing affection.

I think of greyhounds as the old souls of the dog world. Gentle and sweet, they show us their gratitude and remind me daily of what it means to care and give back.

That's why I’ve included GREY2K in my will. This small but hardworking organization has fought tirelessly for the humane treatment of greyhounds. I hope you’ll join me in making a planned gift to help this wonderful breed of dogs, so that the fight to end dog racing may continue.
